Joseph Steyr's Bio
Dr. Joseph Steyr is a Naturopathic Doctor with an interest in endocrinology (hormones) and research relating to long term stress and the development of chronic diseases. He has a special interest in the endocrine system and how stress affects our mental functions like memory, mood and depression. As well as chronic health concerns such as diabetes, prostate health, fertility and menstrual irregularities.
About Dr. Joseph Steyr
Joseph earned his first degree in ecological sciences at York University, a nod to his interest in how living things bind everything and everyone together. While completing an undergraduate degree in Biology, Joseph learned to search for the common thread that binds living things, and the root causes of health concerns and diseases.
Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Joseph lived in Taiwan for a few years before pursuing his naturopathic training, and had the opportunity to immerse himself in a culture with an alternative approach to health. The experience taught him how to pursue healing from a new perspective and see how each health concern can be seen from many points of view.
When Joseph returned to Canada he decided that he wanted to learn about alternative medicine and realized that he needed more answers to the idea of root causes of illness and disease, and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle in a busy world. Joseph enrolled at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. After four years at school completing his second degree, Joseph became a naturopathic doctor.
When not practising naturopathic medicine, Joseph enjoys hiking and being out in nature, travelling and scuba diving. In Toronto, he works alongside his partner Michelle Heighington, a registered nutritionist.
Dr. Steyr's Philosophy
Joseph sees his career as a perfect union between his two passions: alternative medicine and the environment. He brings a blend of conventional medical sciences and traditional health philosophies into his practice, which allows him to see a person's health from multiple points of view.
Joseph helps his patient go beyond the prescription pad and acts as a bridge between conventional and alternative medicines. He empowers his patients and helps them explore naturopathic options and treatments that best meet their health needs.
Joseph relishes the opportunity to be the advocate who walks with his patients on their path to wellness, even if it's full of roadblocks, and unexpected twists and turns. Regardless of what kinds of maladies or conditions he treats, the one thing Joseph really wants people to see is hope, and that there are options.
