Dena Bowen's Bio
"The first time I had a Bowenwork session I got off the table and I asked Bowenwork practitioner Debbie Clor three questions. "What did you do to me? How did you do it? And where can I learn it?" Something had happened to me while I was on the table during my very first session. I didn't know it then, but what had happened was that Bowenwork found me and claimed me.
"Since I began my training in 2008, I have never looked back, and began building my Bowenwork career. Bowenwork has taken me to incredible places, and has exposed me to many different cultures. I have been privileged to assist many people through personal tragedies, triumphs, and transformations. I am still in awe of the power of Bowenwork. There is something about doing this work that satisfies and fulfills me to my very core. I am so glad that Bowenwork finally found me."
Dena Bowen is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Psychology. She became a certified Bowenwork practitioner in 2008, and has recently become a Band One Bowenwork Instructor. "One more time Bowenwork claimed me and this time it was to become an instructor. The instructor training provided by the American Bowen Academy was excellent and challenged me in many ways. Instructor's Karin Twohig and Nancy Pierson covered every aspect of training, and have prepared all the students to represent Bowenwork in the most professional manner possible. I do believe it is possible to make Bowenwork a household and worldwide name."
"Bowenwork seems to be in my DNA, and I am excited about becoming an instructor. I am always passionate about sharing the knowledge about Bowenwork, and want everyone to benefit from the work. It is very exhilarating to be a part of such an innovative, worldwide organization that is known for its professionalism and commitment. When I meet other people that are as enthusiastic as I am about spreading the work of Tom Bowen I know that I am in the right place. Having the last name of Bowen doesn't seem to hurt either. People always ask if I created Bowenwork, and I just laugh and say no."
"One of my first challenging client's turned out to be my own husband John Malek. John was in a severe car accident, and received multiple injuries, as well as a traumatic brain injury (TBI). It was months before it was determined that John had more than physical injuries. There was something very wrong, and John's brain injury became evident. "I began doing Bowenwork on John when he was in the emergency room, and then I became John's onsite Bowenwork practitioner. I did Bowenwork on demand during the day, and even in the middle of the night." It was a long and frightening journey for us as we traveled the road of recovery. I have learned so much from our experience, and now have great compassion when tragedy visits a family."
Having a Bowenwork practitioner in the family paid off. While John will always need lifelong care, after four years of recovery, John is back at work and thriving. "My husband always tells everyone that it was the Bowenwork that helped him recover the most."
Dena has had numerous articles published, and has been recognized in the Crazy Wisdom Journal, lectures to organizations, and regularly provides public demonstrations.
Bowenworks4KidsT was also created by Dena Bowen. Bowenworks4KidsT is modeled after Tom Bowen's original practice of giving back to the community by providing Bowenwork to children and young adults. "Helping to create a new generation of healthy kids is the goal of Bowenworks4KidsT."
"I am excited for the future of Bowenwork, and in my own way I feel as if I am contributing to the wellness of this planet by introducing Bowenwork to people. "I always have a good chuckle when people become 'Bowen Lifer's.' I am always hoping that someday a client will get off the table and ask me three questions. What did you do to me? How did you do it? And where can I learn it? Then I will be able to say "why you can learn Bowenwork right here in Michigan of course!"
